Jonathan's Birthday Party

Jonathan's 2nd birthday was on Friday, August 22. Here are some pictures from the party we had to celebrate his birthday and the birthday of Ayden Ayers, who turned 6. For the party, we had most of our best friends in Bryan/College Station and some Odessa family over to the Ayers's home for pizza, cake, and presents. It was a ton of fun. Thanks Ayers family for hosting us!

Ahhhh hypocrisy

(breaking story, courtesy of the blog of my friend Matt)

I have to laugh (in amazement, certainly not because it's funny) when such blatantly hypocritical statements like the following one come from the mouths of people like the Secretary of State of the United States (who holds a Ph.D. in international affairs):

"Russia is a state that is unfortunately using the one tool that it has always used …when it wishes to deliver a message, and that's its military power. That's not the way to deal in the 21st century."

Seriously?...You can't be serious...Is she serious! Wow. Because the way we deal with things in the 21st century is through book clubs, tea, and respectful conversation...and bombs.

On a related note, last night, my pastor asked me who my top five favorite presidents of the U.S. are. I responded: "George Washington. Post-Washington, everything was downhill in foreign affairs." And as great as he was, he wasn't anywhere near perfect on the issue.

Noisetrade

My blog immediately before this has a link to some great music! There's a new site out there called noisetrade.com, from which you can download music from over 50 artists (and growing). As payment, the artists ask for one of two things: pay what you want, or simply tell three other people about the album and then download for free.

The album I posted is by The Allens, some great friends of mine. The fact that they're on the front page of the website is a small testimony to how good their music is. Out of little-old West Texas, their album has remained as one of the most downloaded albums on the site. It's great stuff - acoustic, folky, and just cool.

(As a side note, I used to be in a band with them back in high school and early college. Our biggest gig was opening up for a big music festival in West Texas called "Rock the Desert," at which the most famous Christian artists were Chris Tomlin and The Newsboys. Fun days.)
