Reformation Day Celebration

My Reformation Day, October 31, 2008:

6:15am - alarm goes off at my hoped-for time of getting up
7:15 - I actually get up
8:10 - prayer, special thanks to God for one of my heroes, Martin Luther
8:13 - Jonathan wakes up

Morning - feeding Jonathan, about 45 minutes of "Cars," turned in the keys to our old apartment, had carpet installed in the bedroom which was converted from a garage

12:00 - Beans and rice for lunch.
12:30 - I finally get Jonathan to eat his beans (no rice) for lunch.
1:30 - nap time for Jonathan
2:45 - Jonathan finally begins nap time

2:45-4:45 - Studying for exams

5:00-5:30 - At Janelle's office party - a combined "Fun Friday" and pumpkin-carving extravaganza. Apparently, Janelle is the Speed Racer of pumpkin carving

5:45-6:30 - Off to the church for a big Reformation festival. Jonathan wasn't too sure about wearing a tiger at first, but once we put it on him, he loved it (that's us in the bounce-house)

6:30-9:30 - I leave the really fun party to go study. On the bright side, I did get to eat an always-amazing Tejas Blue sandwich from Blue Baker.

9:45-now - hanging out with my wife, at our new house, with my son sleeping down the hall, blogging in a temperature-controlled room, on a day marking a great stride forward for the Church. When you end a day like that, it's hard to complain much about mere busyness.

Change in Adoption Day

Good news on the adoption-day front. Thanks to my mom (who works for the attorney who is handling Jonathan's adoption) making some phone calls, the adoption has been moved to Tuesday, November 25. This is going to be better than November 22 for a couple reasons:

1. I don't have to leave my comprehensive Ph.D. exams on Friday morning and drive straight into Odessa that night.

2. Since it's only a couple days before Thanksgiving, we're actually going to get to spend a good part of a week, including Thanksgiving, with my family (instead of a really fast weekend). I haven't seen them for Thanksgiving in four years.

Just thought you'd all like to share in good news!

The Arctic has ice?

Here's a link to a funny story:

Apparently, a team traveled to the Arctic to document the massive effects of climate change, i.e., to find out where all the ice has supposedly gone.

One problem: once they got there, they got stuck. "How?", you ask? Ice.

Now I'm no expert on climate change, and I don't necessarily dispute that the climate may have changed a little over the last couple decades due to human pollution/waste/misuse (whatever that may mean), but still, stories like this just make me laugh.

(Just so no one thinks I'm too morbid, the crew is all fine with no real worries)
