"The nuclear
option is always on the table. Of course, we'll never use it, but it acts as a deterrent against that oil spill. And we already know it has chemical and biological weapons, because it is them."Speaking of warfare and oil spills: Why do you think it is that the oil spill is being covered 24-7, while the TWO wars we're in get covered in the news every once and a while. I mourn the death of pelicans, but I mourn even more the death of innocent Afghani and Iraqi civilians.
Is it because of the moral implications of the ecological disaster?
Or is it because we simply care so much about anything to do with oil?
Or is it something else?
Thoughts?

Two reasons:
First – it is something new. In about a month we’ll be bored of it whether it is cleaned up or not.
Second- it is in our own backyard while the wars are on the other side of the world. It is a more immediate threat.
The first reason is laziness mixed with sensationalism. On the other hand, the second reason can be a good desire, a connection with your immediate world (as opposed to the distant world). Taken to the extreme this can lead to a hatred or an indifference of the distant but in a everyday hierarchy sense I don’t see anything sinful about caring for your immediate world first.
Yeah, I was also going to say proximity. It's also a big deal for the people who work on those beaches. People who rely on the seasonal tourists are in trouble.
Simple because people did not care with our one home the EARTH

As time goes on, mankind has become more egocentric. We care about ourselves, and don't want to worry about the problems of others. Its not my problem, so someone else will take care of it.
I hate this way of thinking, but sadly its true. I'm most guilty of this point of view, even though i'm trying t change. We need to start concerning ourselves with our fellow man and our world. and not just be concerned, but be ACTIVELY concerned.
